DEADRITE, a card game that allows children to teach each other concepts surrounding our funerary practices. Questions are asked, conversations begin, the teacher is present and facilitates the experience without the weight of personal responsibility.

Challenge
Today, the subject of death is considered taboo in most schools. A conversation deficit persists. Teachers are reticent to broach the topic of death with students due to the lack of a prescribed teaching method. There is a place for ‘Death Education’ in the SPHE(Social, Personal and Health Education) Secondary School curriculum. My research showed that over 80% of teachers would like a format to introduce the topic. How can we facilitate this conversation in both an educational and playful manner without the teacher feeling personally responsible?
Design Process
I applied a human-centred design approach to this project through the Double Diamond process model
